I post this true story as told to me by one of the strongest women that I ever know. Fortunate that I am to have known her, the circumstances that we met were very unfortunate. It was a normal morning - I packed my tote bag with the usual stuff - diapers, dresses for the kids and walked to the NICU. It was my habit to look at the name board every morning - a constant reminder to me that normal full term births (not to mention girl babies) are a common occurrence. Our babies had occupied the first and second position for quite sometime and today two more entries caught my eye - baby arthur and baby lison - extreme pre term. I walked into the NICU despising HIM. Pure despise as I was tired of asking him why. Fed up was more like it. Ironically I immediately closed my eyes in prayer shutting every other thought - the thought of even our own babies. Dear God give them the strength. I wore sterile clothes and walked in - the sight that i saw - calling it a commotion would have been an understatement. Yes. Two wombs were getting ready to nurture two tiny lives for the next couple of weeks. The job that was always done to perfection there. No one batted an eyelid or spared a moment. They had only one goal - to make the babies survive.
I walked out after my routine inside to find the couple waiting outside at the corridor. Hand in hand. She leaning on him and he lost in despair. No words passed between them. After all what could one say to each other when their babies were born 15 weeks pre mature and weighing only 600grams. She saw me wearing my slippers. The hug was spontaneous. And was the tears. Few unfortunate moments when we dont need words to explain what. And the mere shoulder would do. Momentarily. My mind rewound to nine weeks back but that can wait. For now let me take you along the lives of Chloe, Pierre, Baby Arthur and Baby lison...

Bills and moon : A new perspective
So they both were married - to different people. He was a vice president at a tech firm and she an educated house wife. The last couple of months had brought them closer than ever as they had met over a common pain point. It was easier for one to empathise the other and be open. It all started with normal greetings progressing to short conversations, those coffees and dinner. Half the time it used to be as families and the remaining between them. Their friendship grew with time. One day he called her n said he would be moving out of country. He was always a man of few words and she the talkative filler. He asked her out to dinner the same evening and she said she would come to his place and from there they could go.
Her heart bet fast as she got ready. Yes he would be moving away. Although things were perfectly fine between her and her husband she needed him for no specific reason. She had simply got used to him being around all the time whether she needed it or not. With a confused mind she boarded a taxi to his place. As she rang the bell, he opened the door with his usual charming bright smile. He was wearing the navy blue t shirt she had bought for him. It was perfect for his milky white complexion. He looked so handsome. She walked past in even more confused.
She sat down on the couch, her mind racing. She simply wanted to express her thoughts as she always did to him without having to think or reword. She looked at where he was and found him tapping away in his BlackBerry. Yes she would tell him. "Hey.. can i have your undivided attention for fifteen minutes? Whenever you're ready". "Right away" he said as he switched his BlackBerry to silent and sat beside her. Her hands were trembling and as cold as ice. For the first time, she was at a loss for words and didnt know where or how to begin. He looked calm and waited for her as patiently as ever. "You ok?". Another first - she lied to him "yes".
After a couple of deep breaths she started "so i always wondered if it was possible for a man and woman to have a platonic relationship till the end. I thought yes it was possible because you and I were perfect examples. As time grew I realised I was wrong. I had allowed myself to fall in love with you" he opened his mouth to say something and she stopped him. "Let me complete. Yes I have fallen in love with you. You have been special to me. You brought out the woman in me that I never knew existed. You made me be myself uninhibited. Ive never needed that tissue to wipe off my tears or to cover my hideous smile. Is this love? Or simply an infatuation? I dont know. I dont expect anything from you not even to love me back. So dont ask me why I took the pain of telling you. Because I always do. I love you" and she covered her face as tears began to roll down uncontrollably. He moved near her and slowly grabbed her hands. "I love you too... " and he kissed her. And they made love.
They talked and talked into the night. They decided on taking a selfie to mark the happiness. A selfie that would not be a whatsapp dp or on fb but password protected in their own phones. How much ever happiness it reflected, it was illegitimate. It was time for her to leave. A myriad thoughts. He would leave tomorrow to another corner of the world. It wouldn't be practical to expect their relationship to continue. She would go to the airport to send him off. His family off. And yes. She would wear black. As she walked to the departure lounge she found him. Tall the man he was finding him in crowds was easy. She smiled at him from the distance and he returned it. He wore the black t shirt she had bought for him for his birthday. Calling him prince charming would be an understatement. They never exchanged flowers or greeting cards. She shook his hands "I wish you the best...". He smiled. She was fully used to this. He said goodbye and together with his family moved towards immigration. She would wait until he got lost in the crowd. She looked at him with silent tears. He turned back and mouthed an I'll miss you only for her eyes. She smiled and started walking back as her phone rang, it was her husband. "Yes sweetheart..." and she moved on to embrace reality.
This is unconditional love too... pure and true... not expecting anything in return.. right or wrong we cannot say as perspective matters. Only one thing. They did not care.
Cheers,
Hopie
